Anna Mengel is a German soprano, sought after as a soloist in oratorios, recitals and as an interpreter of modern music.
An accomplished Lied singer, she has performed at Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Musiktage Hitzacker. On the opera stage she has performed as a soloist at Staatsoper Hannover, the Royal Academy Opera, London, and at the Eden, Berlin.
She was awarded Second Prize at the prestigious competition Bundeswettbewerb Gesang Berlin.
Anna graduated with a Distinction from the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she completed her Masters in Vocal Performance with Mary Nelson and Christopher Glynn. For her outstanding final recital, Anna was awarded a Diploma of the Royal Academy of Music. She recently completed the chamber music course at the HMTM Hannover with Jan Philip Schulze and Henryk Böhm.
Anna is a versatile musician and particularly interested in contemporary music. She has been part of numerous premieres and has worked with composers including Detlev Glanert and Roxanna Panufnik. On the recital platform Anna creates innovative programmes, performing modern music alongside works from past eras. She frequently performs with prestigious vocal ensembles such as Schola Heidelberg.
Anna is a scholarship recipient of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes and was supported by the Josephine Baker Trust.
